In honor of Uncle Bill for Memorial Day

E-mail: August 2002

Uncle Al has been researching about our Uncle Bill. He was Grandma Besgrove's youngest brother and was killed in world war II. Never found. When the two planes were found in China last month he got busy and found his old flying group. One of the guys sent him this picture and told him lots of facts about his disappearance. He volunteered to fly to somewhere in China in a B26 (which Uncle Al says is a very hard plane to fly) to deliver some papers so he could get a promotion in the air force. They don't know if he was shot down or just crashed, but they think he crashed in a deep lake in China. He knew the name and neither Uncle Bill or the plane have been found. There are still two men from his group alive. One lives in Cedar City, Utah and the other in Florida. They have been in contact with Uncle Al and been giving him some information. Uncle Bill was listed missing as of Aug1945 because theydidn't keep any records after that point. Out of 180 men in his group there were only 80 killed or missing. He is the one in the middle. Just wanted you guys to have this for future records. He was a really special person and very smart. He was named after my Grandpa Walker. His nick name was Billy. Don't know where they come up with that other than one of Grandma Walkers Brothers was William, so maybe he acted like him or looked like him. When we lived in Redlands, CA during the war he came to see us before the war broke out and was also married at our home there before he left for the war. His wife was from Colorado and her name was Kinki. He had a picture of her in a wine glass painted on his plane in a bathing suit. Seems funny after all this time we would be able to find these things out. Who says computers aren't any good!
